Ismael Röhrig highlights the importance of Governance, Strategy, and Communication

ISMAEL ROHRIG HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANCE OF GOVERNANCE, STRATEGY, AND COMMUNICATION WITH THE MARKET

With a background in Corporate Law, Ismael Röhrig began his career in the legal field but shifted to Investor Relations (IR) during the pandemic, attracted by the combination of communication, governance, and numbers. “When I made the switch, I was honestly afraid. I came from the legal area and didn’t know what ROIC, IRR, or valuation meant. It was like another language. But I studied, I learned — and it turned out to be the best decision of my career.”

Throughout the interview, he shared how his role expanded within Panvel to also include the Strategy and Management areas, reinforcing the importance of IR professionals taking part in the decisions that shape the company’s future. “More than just storytellers, IR professionals have to live the operation. You can’t communicate strategy based only on PowerPoint.”

One of the most personal moments of the conversation was when Ismael spoke about how fatherhood impacted his career perspective. “I underestimated it when friends said everything changes when you have a child. Now I understand. I started to think about how to make the corporate environment healthier for her generation.”

In his talk with Cássio Rufino, Ismael also detailed Panvel’s recent advances in governance, such as its migration to the Novo Mercado (New Market), the consolidation of a solid base of retail investors, and the use of technology and artificial intelligence for shareholder management and content production. He also highlighted the partnership with MZ, which supports the revamp of the IR website and the improvement of investor relations tools.

For Ismael, the relationship with the market must be continuous and deeply connected to the company’s reality. “IR has to be a window. Bring the market’s concerns into the company and deliver clear, strategic, and realistic communication back.” Active listening, according to him, is the starting point for any consistent narrative. “You need to listen to know what you need to tell. There’s no point in sitting down and telling the story that makes sense to me if, on the other side, there’s a different pain.”

He also shared practices implemented in Panvel’s daily routine, such as investor profile mapping, creating reports with performance indicators, monitoring access to the IR website, and holding Investor Days and on-site visits. “The site visit is where the thesis comes to life. Showing who’s behind the expansion strategy creates a real connection.”

Ismael concluded by leaving three recommendations for those working or aspiring to work in investor relations: constant curiosity, focus on strategic communication, and closeness to operations. “IR depends on many areas. If you’re not connected to the company, the strategy, and what’s behind the decisions, you’ll always be communicating only half the story.”

The conversation also covers topics such as the challenges of communicating with different investor profiles, the growing role of social media in IR strategy, and how to balance technology, transparency, and consistency in the journey to strengthen governance.
